Since 1983, the company serviced a select group of customers providing preliminary cost estimating and value engineering as well as recommendations on means and methods, life-safety, thermal barriers, sound control as well as aesthetics. This was accomplished through a close relationship with the internal team of the clients as well as the engineers, architects, and consultants on the projects. Compass was renowned for expertise in the design and quick delivery of cold-formed steel curtainwall and envelope systems. Responsibilities included sales development, engineering, estimating, product selection, job cost and general administration.

Interior Finishes Contractor begun in 1953 in Ohio, by a Texan following the migration of ‘wall-board’ usage in residential construction. The company became one of the largest commercial wall and ceiling contractors in Central Ohio being involved with the construction of the Chase Bank McCoy Center, the 2nd largest single tenant office building in North America, (behind The Pentagon), a 6-year complete renovation of the Ohio Statehouse Complex, Nationwide Arena, The Wexner Center for the Arts and much of the Columbus skyline. Over a 23-year time frame advanced though the positions of Project Engineer, Project Manager, Estimator, Sales Director, Project Executive and Vice President of Sales and Engineering.

A college required internship. Having grown up in the commercial building industry, I desired experience in the heavy-highway sector. This placement was over three consecutive quarters filling the role of the on-site supervision of manpower and equipment on several road projects, all of which included, paving, storm drainage and utility relocation. Assisted with estimating, including a limited access highway bid proposal for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Took this part time position to gain some hands-on building construction experience before starting college. Responsibilities were to assist the Project Manager and Engineers with document distribution and archiving on a $350 million dollar hospital expansion in Dayton, Ohio. Worked full-time in summers and at the end of project, assisted in punch list completion and subcontractor closeout.
